Clint Eastwood is said to have aquired the rights to the screenplay for Unforgiven at least ten years before it was actually filmed. The reason for the long delay being that he wanted to ‘grow older and mature’ before he tackled the complex part of William Munny. As a point of fact, Clint was in his fifties ten years before the film was made. Of course, everyone knows that you don’t hit maturity until you’re well into your 60’s.
The film won the Academy Award in 1992 for best film, it was only the third western to ever win the award. The others were Dances with wolves (1990) and Cimarron (1931).
